전체 작품 제목은 Before and After로 전통적인 것을 현대화한다는 의미입니다. Before는 과거를, After는 현대를 나타냅니다. 달항아리와 자개는 전통 공예이지만 새롭게 캔버스 위에 현대회화로 재탄생 시키고자 하는 작업입니다. 또한 자개는 전복, 소라, 조개 등 자연에서 얻어지는 재료이기 때문에 신비롭고 색깔도 아름답습니다. 그림에 등장하는 나비는 Before 와 After를 이어주는 생명력입니다. 캔버스에 유화로 그린 다음 0.8mm로 자른 자개로 격자 무늬 등을 만들어 전체를 덮은 다음 코팅을 합니다. 그 위에 크리스탈을 부착하여 빛을 더하는 작업으로 마무리합니다. 정현숙은 교수와 작가 생활을 병행하며 30년 동안 한국, USA, 일본, 인도, 독일, 튀르키예 등에서 30여회 이상 개인전시를 했으며, 런던, 시카고, 쾰른, 마이애미, 베를린, 멜버른, 토론토, 암스테르담 등에서 열린 국제 Art Fair에 40여회 참석했습니다. 그리고 한국의 아모레퍼시픽이라는 화장품 회사의 설화수 브랜드와 2번의 광고 협업을 진행한 바 있습니다.

The overall title of the work is "Before and After," signifying the modernization of traditional elements. "Before" represents the past, while "After" represents the present. The use of Chosun white porcelain and mother-of-pearl involves transforming traditional crafts into contemporary paintings on canvas. Additionally, mother-of-pearl, derived from natural materials such as abalone, shells, and clams, adds a mysterious and beautiful touch due to its colors. The butterflies depicted in the paintings symbolize the vitality connecting the "Before" and "After." The artist, Jeong Hyun-Sook, combines oil painting on canvas with the meticulous cutting of 0.8mm mother-of-pearl to create grid patterns and cover the entire surface. The artwork is then coated, and crystals are attached to enhance the play of light. Jeong Hyun-sook has pursued a career as a professor and artist, having held over 30 solo exhibitions in countries such as Korea, the United States, Japan, India, Germany, and Turkey over the past 30 years. Furthermore, she has participated in more than 40 international art fairs in cities like London, Chicago, Cologne, Miami, Berlin, Melbourne, Toronto, and Amsterdam. She also worked on two brand collaboration projects with Sulwhasoo, a main brand of Amore Pacific, a Korea's largest cosmetics company.
