서수영 작가는 서울에서 태어났고, 동덕여자대학교 예술대학 학부와 대학원에서 한국화를 전공하고 동 대학원에서 박사학위를 취득했다. Galerie Visconti(France), 한국미술관, 영은미술관을 비롯해 30여회의 국내외 개인전과 200여회의 기획전에 초대되었다. 또한 KIAF SEOUL, Citizen Art Shanghai (China), Hong Kong Art Fair (Hong Kong), SCOPE (UK) Art Show등 30회 이상의 국내외 아트페어에도 참가했다. 2015년도에 문화예술융성사업으로 진행한 근대 이후 제작된 배채 기법 작업 중 가장 큰 대작을 완성하여 한국 미감의 정수를 새로운 세대의 감성으로 보여주었다. 단행본 『그림 속에 나타난 금 이야기』 를 저술하였고, 경기문화재단, 용인문화재단, 이천시립월전미술관 우수창작작가에 선정, 안견청년작가 대상, 최우수 논문상, 커리어 리더상을 수상했다. 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 영은미술관, 한국미술관 등 여러 곳에 소장되었고, 동덕여자대학교 예술대학 회화과 겸임교수를 역임하였다. 현재 전업 작가로 활동 중이다. 서수영은 조선백자의 형상 안에 지금까지 실험해온 ‘한국적 미감의 다양한 해석’을 구현해냈다. 오랜 기간 채색화에 매진했던 노 하우를 살려 고도의 세밀함과 집중력이 요구되는 금채화 기법을 더해 자신만의 독창적인 화풍을 만들어내고 있다. 흔히 조선시대 백자 혹은 청화백자는 문인 정신의 표상으로 담백한 미학의 상징으로 여겨져 왔는데, 여기에 서수영만의 절제된 화려함을 더했다.

Sooyoung SEO was born in Seoul, graduated from Dongduk Women’s University with her BFA and MFA in oriental painting, and received her Ph.D., also from Dongduk Women’s University. Seo had about 30 selected solo exhibitions and more than 200 selected group exhibitions at home and abroad, including Galerie Visconti (France), Artgate (USA), longsun art gallery(China), Hankuk Museum of Art, and Youngeun Museum of Art. Besides, Seo also participated in more than 30 domestic and foreign art fairs, such as KIAF SEOUL, Citizen Art Shanghai (China), Hong Kong Art Fair (Hong Kong), and SCOPE (UK) Art Show. On the one hand, Seo completed the largest masterpiece of the work produced since modern times, which was carried out as a cultural and artistic prosperous project and 2015, showing the essence of Korean aesthetics with a sensibility of a new generation. Seo wrote a book titled 『The Story of Gold in the Painting』 and was selected as an excellent creative artist by Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, Yongin Cultural Foundation, and Woljeon Museum of Art Icheon, and received the Ahn Gyeon Young Artist Award, Best Paper Award, and Career Leader Award. The works have been in the collections of various places such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Yungeun Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Hankuk Art Museum.
