이강소는 국내에서 뿐만 아니라 해외에서도 많은 활동과 관심을 받아왔다. 이강소 작가는 매우 실험적인 작가로, 그림, 판화, 비디오, 퍼포먼스, 입체 환경적 설치, 사진, 도예 등 다양한 매개체를 통해 그의 작품성을 표현한다. 또한 그는 공리성을 배제한 채 삶의 있는 그대로를 표현하여 관객들이 이해를 할 수 있기를 원하며, 복잡한 세계의 틀에 박힌 관념이 아닌 자연스러운 삶의 본질을 표현하려 한다. 1975년 제9회 파리 비엔날레에서 이강소는 무제 75031, 닭 퍼포먼스로 외국에서 주목을 받기 시작했다. 전시장 바닥 한가운데에 말뚝을 세워 주위에 회분을 깔아 놓고, 닭의 다리를 끈으로 묶어 말뚝에 연결시켰고, 비엔날레 기간 동안 살아 움직이는 닭이 작가가 만들어내는 굴레 안에서 닭의 의지만으로 먹고 움직여 발에 뭍은 회분이 바닥에 자국을 남기는 형식의 작품이었다. 작가는 닭의 행동범위만을 조절했고 닭의 행동에 관여하지 않았다. 이처럼 작가는 의도적으로 작품을 만들어내지 않는다. 그의 작품은 언제나 그가 만들어낸 틀 안에서 인위적이지 않고 직감적으로 작품을 창조한다. 이강소는 창작물의 완성보다는 그 과정에 더 많은 비중을 둔 작가이나, 작가가 어려서부터 자연스레 접해온 동양철학이 내재된 그의 작품을 본다면 작가를 서구의 추상표현주의나 미니멀리즘으로만으로는 설명할 수 없다. 현재 그의 작품은 한국의 국립미술관외 여러 유명 미술관, 미국 라구나 비치에 위치한 20세기 박물관, 일본의 이에현 미술관 그 외에도 국내외 공공 또는 사기업에 소장중이다.

Kangso Lee is a highly experimental artist who expresses his work through a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, video, performance, three-dimensional environmental installation, photography, and ceramics, and has garnered much acclaim and attention in the global market. He tries to express life as it is, without axioms, for the audience to understand, and he tries to express the natural essence of life, not the stereotypes of a complex world. The artist does not create his work intentionally; his work is always created intuitively, not artificially, within the framework he has created. Although he values the process more than the end result, his work cannot be simply described as Western abstract expressionism or minimalism because it is imbued with Eastern philosophy, which he has been exposed to since childhood. His works are currently in the collections of famous museums and public and private institutions in Korea and abroad, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Museum of 20th Century Art in Laguna Beach, California, and the Ie Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan.
