박광성 작가는 1991년 도불한 이후 1998년에 유서 깊은 미술 대전인 'Salon d'Art Contemporain de Montrouge (GRAND PRIX du salon)'에 선정되어 작품을 인정받았다. 2003년부터 독일에 거주하며 왕성한 작품 활동을 하고 있는 그는 화면을 압도하는 절제된 색채와 대상의 단순화를 통해 형상의 자유를 향한 변증법적 사유를 시도해오고 있다. 작가의 작품에서 두드러지게 나타나는 블랙과 화이트 그리고 두 색상의 사이에서 생겨나는 회색의 부드러운 무게감과 강한 호소력으로 작가가 표현하고자 했던 수많은 감정의 여운들을 감각적으로 나열한다.

사르트르의 실존주의 철학에 기반을 둔 그의 회화는 인간의 '소유'와 '존재'에 대해 근본적인 화두를 던지며 작가 특유의 회화적 기법으로 풀어내고 있다. 오랜 시간 회화의 가장 기본적인 모티프가 되어온 인물과 신체, 풍경은 그의 작품에서 파편으로 등장하며 정확한 형상으로 제시되지 않는다. 화면 속 형상은 심연에서 떠오르는 듯 존재를 드러내지만 이내 작가의 붓터치로 지워진다. 이러한 것은 작가가 회화에 대한 본질을 탐구한 흔적이며 실존적 '존재'와 그것의 자유의지가 투입된 '나에게 고유한 것' 즉 '소유'에 대해서 관객에게 던지는 메시지이다. 절제된 색채 그리고 선의 경계를 완화시키는 스푸마토 기법의 활용은 '소유'와 '존재'에 대한 관객의 상상력을 자극하고 이는 곧 작가뿐만 아니라 관객의 자유의지를 통해 비로소 완성된다.

Kwangsung PARK has been painting since 1991, and in 1998, he was selected to participate in the prestigious Salon d'Art Contemporain de Montrouge (GRAND PRIX du salon). Since 2003, he has been living and working in Germany, where he attempts a dialectical reflection on the freedom of form through the restrained use of colour and simplification of objects that overwhelm the canvas. The soft weight and strong appeal of black and white and the grey that arises between the two colours, which are prominent in the artist's works, sensually list the myriad of emotions that the artist wanted to express.

Based on Sartre's existentialist philosophy, his paintings raise fundamental questions about human possession and existence, which he resolves through his unique painting techniques. The human figure, the body, and the landscape, which have long been the most basic motifs of painting, appear in fragments in his works and are not presented in precise form. The figures on the screen appear to emerge from the abyss, only to be erased by the artist's brushstrokes. These are traces of the artist's exploration of the nature of painting, and a message to the viewer about existential 'being' and 'owning' something that is 'unique to me', where free will is involved. The restrained use of colour and the spumato technique, which relaxes the boundaries of the lines, stimulates the viewer's imagination about 'possession' and 'existence', which is only completed through the free will of the viewer as well as the artist.
